Setup Release templates

Everyone has a slightly different release process that standardises over time. Your release stages like Build, Test or UAT are scheduled for a specific amount of time.

Use Release Types → Release Types Stages → and Stage Duration to define your releases better.
After you setup you can then use the Release Templates when you’re creating a new release. After that, stages and the duration are generated based on the type of release you choose.

Release types

Release types are useful when certain releases go through different release stages.
For example, hotfixes will be different from the usual release and web app release will have different release stages than a mobile app release. They can be also be used when different teams or projects follow different release processes.

Release stages

Release stages are repeatable activities required to release each version. Depending on your team practices you may have common stages.
We map the default (Build) release stage to the version created in Jira projects. But you can create any additional stages you need like UAT, Integration, Smoke testing, Alpha and Beta release or even Market content creation, documentation update, etc.

Duration of the release stage

It's beneficial to setup Duration of the release stage it's going to speed up creating new releases.

When creating a release you'll only set start or release date and all stage dates will be calculated and filled based on your template. You can also manually change these when needed.

The smallest duration you can setup is 1 day. The stage will then start just after previous finishes so the order of the stage matters.
